EULAT4Culture Agora in Brussels

On 1 June, the AGORA, an all-day opening event, will be the formal global launch of EULAT4CULTURE, an innovative cultural diplomacy initiative by Ibero- American Cultural Network RIDCULT of the Ibero-American General Secretariat (SEGIB), the European External Action Service and the Spanish Presidency of EUNIC.

Following the Joint statement EUNIC/RIDCULT adopted at the June 2021 EUNIC General Assembly in Toledo, EUNIC launched on 8 February 2022 a special global call, initiated by AECID with dedicated funding by the Government of Spain, from which 20 EUNIC clusters were selected. This call funds cultural projects that bring new perspectives to the creative links between Europe and Latin America, contributing to shared values such as democracy, defence of human rights and freedom of expression.

In response to this call, the EUNIC Brussels Cluster has brought together European and Latin American embassies and cultural centres and Belgian cultural institutions for the cooperative production of the cultural festival 'EULAT 4 Culture Belgium - Cooperative culture and creativtiy to address global challenges'. This festival, taking place from 1 to 14 June 2022, is to strengthen EU - Latin America relations and shared values through cooperative culture and creativity, including 23 different events based on cooperative arts, culture and creativity as geopolitical force for peace. The full two-weeks programme is available here.

The opening event, the AGORA, will take place at the Flemish Royal Theatre (KVS) and will bring together policy makers, cultural managers, artists, creators, artivists and the public to reflect and discuss the potential of arts, culture and creativity as a geopolitical force to address global challenges. The EUNIC Global perspective will be represented by EUNIC colleagues in the panel discussion 'Towards the cooperative paradigm in international cultural relations: from polarising narratives to transcultural dialogue' as well as in 'La Cooperativa EULAT 4 Culture' a series of parallel sessions on good practices on EU-LAT cooperative cultural relations and creativity as a geopolitical force to address global challenges.
