Looking to COP30 in Brazil: Putting cultural relations on the climate agenda
Ahead of COP30 in Brazil, from 10–21 November 2025, EUNIC and its members are preparing to make culture an integral part of the conversation.

The 30th UN Climate Conference (COP30) will take place in Belém in the heart of the Amazon, bringing together world leaders, scientists, NGOs and civil society actors to shape global climate policy and discuss action plans addressing the ongoing climate crisis.
At EUNIC, we advocate for culture as a central part of international relations - this includes the global conversation on climate policy. Because the climate crisis is also a cultural crisis, climate action is a priority for our network. We are committed to demonstrating the strong links between culture and climate, and to highlighting the role that cultural relations play in shaping responses and solutions.
Many EUNIC members are actively engaged in sustainability and climate action work and are preparing to participate in COP30 in various ways, contributing their expertise and unique perspectives. This includes British Council, the Danish Cultural Institute, Goethe-Institut, ifa – Institut für Auslandsbeziehungen, Institut français, among others - see highlights below.
EUNIC is - for the first time - convening a series of meetings to coordinate, encourage and support members in preparing a joint presence at COP30. By joining forces, pooling resources and aligning our engagements, we can demonstrate the breadth of culture-based climate action and highlight this important dimension at fora such as COP, consolidating the role of international cultural relations in climate action.
