The main idea behind this project was to commemorate the 150th anniversary of Maria Skłodowska-Curie’s – the only women that received Nobel Prize twice. The other idea was to discuss the role of women in science, especially in exact science. The project was implemented in co-operation of the Polish Institute, Goethe Institute, French Institute and Italian Cultural Centre in Vilnius (most of the members of EUNIC, however the EUNIC logo was not used).

It was realised in three parts:

a) July 2017 – presentation of Marie Noelle’s film “Marie Curie” during Thomas Mann Festival in Nida

b) September 2017 – Science Festival in Lithuania. Maria Skłodowska-Curie became a patron of the Festival and the “Marie Curie” film was presented at the grand opening gala in one of Vilnius cinemas (audience ca. 400-500 people, mainly students). An international symposium “Women in Science” was organised within the festival with presence of prof. Anna Zalewska (former CERN Board Chairwoman), prof. Marcella Diemoz (Italian Institute of Nuclear Physics in Rome) and dr Urte Neniskyte (Neurobiology and Neurophysics / Vilnius University). During the discussion the participants talked about problems, challenges and achievements of women in science, including the “glass ceiling” problem, lack of job opportunities, etc.

c) October 2017 – film about Maria Skłodowska-Curie was presented throughout Lithuania during the 17th Polish Film Festival. It reached mainly young audiences.
