EUNIC joins European Parliament Discussions to champion culture in next EU Budget

The European Commission is developing the Culture Compass - a new strategic framework for EU cultural policy.
This more ambitious and holistic approach to putting culture at the centre of EU policies must be reflected in the next EU budget.
This week, EUNIC joined around 80 colleagues from across the cultural sector at the European Parliament in Brussels to review how culture features in the EU budget for 2028-2034.
EUNIC President, Kirsten van den Hul, and EUNIC Director, Andrew Manning, exchanged with MEPs involved in shaping the Parliament’s position on the budget.
Doing this together with colleagues from the sector is key to sending a strong and unified message: culture matters and requires robust resource allocation.
While Creative Europe is no longer proposed as a stand-alone programme, it will remain as a component of the AgoraEU programme, with a proposed budget increase.
For the Global Europe fund, cultural objectives have been proposed for all regions of the world.
Earmarking funds will be vital in turning these objectives into operational and impactful international cultural relations programmes.
Global Europe needs to ensure its cultural work is coherent and consistent with the cultural relations approach of reciprocity and mutual benefit - drawing on the essential expertise and experience of European and global cultural and civil society partners.
